Laser Cut Hypotubes (LCHT) have revolutionized how catheters are manufactured while also pushing the fold on what is achievable with a catheter. Compared to traditional braid or coil systems, LCHT lend catheter shafts increased tensile strength, kink resistance, column strength, and more, all of which allow for catheters to reach more challenging anatomies.
The manufacturing of medical grade hypotubes that we laser cut is a precise and multi-step process. Here's an overview of what goes into making high-quality hypotubes:
The process starts by taking flat strips of stainless steel and advancing them through a series of precisely placed rollers which gradually bend the strip of metal into a cylindrical shape.
The seam of the cylinder is then welded to create a homogenized material that is fully enclosed. They hypotube now takes it's familiar shape.
Lastly, the welded tube is pulled though a diamond plug and die which precisely sets the final inner and outer diameter of tube.
Lastly the hypotubes are centerlessly ground to achieve precise dimensional accuracy across the entire length of the tube and ensure that the surface finish is smooth.
